During the breeding season, beginning in October, deer will start their hunt for fatty winter food and a mate. As the supply of acorns and other fatty nuts dwindles they will turn their focus on hostas, dogwoods and other plants. Bucks will also begin rubbing rubbing smaller trees and even uprooting them during this time.
